Superdrug Glycolic Overnight Peel

Glycolic Acid is a wonderful chemical exfoliant but is so often really expensive! At such a small price, can the Superdrug Glycolic Overnight Peel make a difference to my acne-prone skin? Read on for a full review!

A few weeks ago, a combination of factors had made my skin very very angry! My chin was host to a number of lurkers, blackheads and those hard red spots that can never be popped and seem to stick around forever. Bottom line; I needed a new chemical exfoliant. Luckily, Superdrug was running a promotion across a lot of its own brand skincare so I picked up this Glycolic Overnight Peel for half price (just under £3) to try out...

First Impressions
The consistency is a clear gel which is quite runny when I apply. It dries very quickly and so I added a little bit more on to my chin. It's fragranced and so may not be suitable for those with sensitive skin. I'm wondering if I could wear this as a serum in the day.... hmm

The following morning - as you would expect with a glycolic product, my skin feels much smoother, some of the little bumps have disappeared and the large red spots have calmed down somewhat. Overall, my skin feels re-textured and smooth, there is no residue or out of the ordinary oiliness.

After a couple of weeks
I've been wearing it as a serum under my moisturiser and it wears great; it doesn't interfere with my make-up, hasn't broken me out, basically it plays well within my current routine. I'm not sure if it's made too much of a difference by wearing it in the day, certainly not as dramatic as when I use it overnight.

1 - 2 months of use
I've swapped to a salicylic acid serum for the daytime and I'm using this 1-3 times a week overnight. It's definitely made a welcome difference to my skin. Each time I use it, I wake up with smoother, brighter skin and in the long term (along with the salicylic acid) it's retextured my skin and given it more life.

Conclusion
I'm definitely impressed. At full price it's only £5.99 for 30ml and with the regular special offers you'll be able to get it even cheaper, like I did at just £2.95. I've never seen a glycolic serum/mask/toner for such a low price anywhere!
Of course, as such a low price option, there's not much information about the % of glycolic acid and don't expect it to be as high as some of the very expensive 8% or 10% glycolic at-home peels, but for regular use most people will be happy with a 1 or 2% glycolic which I'm guessing is around the percentage of this - but again, this is a total guess, there's no info about percentages.

Would I recommend it? YES! I absolutely would - but of course, I am my father's daughter, and would also advise you to wait until it's part of one of the regular special offers!

  1. I get those little red bumps all the time! I got one on my eyelid the other day, and I'm just like, Whut?! I already use loads of Superdrugs own stuff, which I love, so I'm definitely going to have to try this (when it's on offer of course ;) ) Thanks for a great review :)

    1. Thanks! It's always what I look for in reviews; nearly everything's great the first time you use it, but what's it like 3 weeks down the line????

  4. Oh that looks like a brilliant product. My skin's been awful since having children. I'll probably give it a go, although I'll have to check on my hand first because of the fragrance. #PoCoLo

    1. I guess the good thing is, that at such a low price point, it's likely to be a low concentration so if you have sensitive skin it'll be a good place to start with chemical exfoliation. Best thing to do - get it on special offer, just in case! ;-)
